Instead of getting each other actual Christmas gifts, Rick and I decided to put the money towards a little getaway trip to Salt Lake over the Christmas break. Sundee watched Kimbri and Garrett for us so that we could go on our little getaway. A huge thank you to her!
We started off the morning in Provo. We ate at one of our favorite places that we always love to visit when we are in Utah... Los Hermanos! Yum. After lunch we were almost at a loss as to what to do. We never have random free time like this! Haha. So we decided to go bowling at Miracle Bowl in Orem. It was so much fun.
When we got done with a couple games there we were headed out to the car when we saw Nickel City right next door. We decided, "Why not?!" and headed over. We felt like little kids walking around playing games with our bag full of nickels but we had a blast!
After acting like little kids all afternoon we decided to head on up to Salt Lake to get checked into our hotel so that we could go see the Temple Square lights. The weather turned awful as soon as we got going on the freeway. I couldn't believe it! We were going probably 15-20 mph almost the whole way there. It was snowing so hard and the roads were really bad. But we finally made it to the Anniversary Inn! We checked our bags in and headed over to the Joseph Smith building to park and go see the lights. It was FRIGID!!! Maybe it's because I'm getting more and more used to Arizona weather but either way it was windy and sooooo cold!!!
The temple and lights were beautiful! And I wish we could've stood up to the cold a little longer to see more lights but seriously, it was freezing. So we escaped into the Lion House to grab some dinner. It was delicious!
Here are a few pics of our room. It was called the Mountain Hideaway which seemed fitting for the huge storm and freezing weather we had just been in all day. It was like a little log cabin with lanterns and a fire place.
The next morning we got up and after having a yummy breakfast the Inn, we headed to Draper to go do sealings at the temple. It was really special and fun to get to go back to the temple that we were married in and perform sealings.
It was the perfect little getaway during such a busy time of life with Rick so busy in medical school. We had a blast and are so grateful for Sundee watching our kids so we could go!
